Socorro, NM– A new press devoted to middle grade books will be republishing the Magic Mayhem series by author Deanna Roy.
Roy, whose women’s fiction and college romances have sold a quarter of a million copies, is excited to take a chance on the new publishing venture. “Middle grade books have a special place in the market, and I think this press is a great way to tap into that,” she said.
The first book in the series, Jinnie Wishmaker, will relaunch in Spring 2016. The story follows a girl with dyslexia who discovers she can grant any living thing its one true wish.
“Jinnie was a project of mine going back to 2006,” Roy said. “It became a bestseller on the Barnes and Noble Nook platform very early in the self-publishing revolution, but it quickly became obvious that to get books to readers of this age, we needed to get into the libraries and bookstores.”
The series will continue in Fall 2016 with Marcus Mender, about a boy on the autism spectrum, and the final, previously unpublished book, Elektra Chaos, will arrive in 2017. “The last book is particularly dear to me,” said Roy. “I wrote it about my daughter’s struggles with epilepsy, but when she got really sick, I couldn’t finish it.”
The new press, Roy said, has given her the boost she needed to complete the final novel in the series. “I know my daughter has been anxious for it to come out,” she said. “She’s a huge advocate for spreading information to help normalize kids’ experiences when they have a serious illness.”
